Gary Schaaf
Gary Schaaf
is Professor and Director of Dance at the University of Nebraska
at Kearney.
Professor Schaaf holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance
Performance and Choreography from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee,
and the terminal Master of Fine Arts degree from the University
of Michigan in Dance Performance, Choreography and Teaching.
He was a soloist with the Milwaukee Ballet Company for four years,
and co-founded and managed a modern dance touring company, Dance
Theatre-on-Tour, in the state of Wisconsin. Professor Schaaf has
taught at Western Michigan University and the University of Massachusetts.
He coordinates the Dance Concert on the UNK campus; choreographs
musicals, operas, operettas, and the Nebraskats (Show Chorus)
ensemble. Professor
Schaaf's philosophy of dance is that there is no substitute
for a solid foundation in technique. Thus, technique classes
are taught stressing vocabulary, discipline, placement and performance.
